Borrowed a friend’s flash to try with my new T1i. Well, strictly speaking, she left it in my car, as, well, a short term present, I guess.

The flash work looks great.
Perhaps you might have more luck capturing open eyes with a diffuser over the flash? (And when I say “diffuser,” I don’t mean “buy something,” I mean “cover it with a tissue or something.”)

Could be. I haven’t had a real flash since the days of film. Actually, I don’t really remember if I owned it or borrowed it. I should completely brush up on flash technique.
