Televise the Trial

Most likely you have already seen a message about this.

U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker — who will be overseeing a federal
court challenge to Prop 8 starting this Monday (January 11) — is considering
whether or not to open the court room to TV cameras.

This what I wrote as a comment. I do not know if anyone ever reads the comments (or even this blog 🙂 ), but what the heck.

The reasons for opposing same-sex marriage are buried in superstition and fear. While it is easy to say that people should shed such fears, understandably that is not always easy to do.

However, many groups are capitalizing on these fears for their own agendas. These groups need to be exposed. A group does not have superstitions and fears, only its members. Whether these groups exist to promote other agendas or to support its members, I believe these groups need to be exposed to public scrutiny.

Please televise the trial so these fears can be aired publicly and hopefully put to rest. And groups that are manipulating those with these superstitions will also be exposed and discredited.

Thank you for your time,

Michael J. Porter

Edit:

Eric McCormack and Julia Louis-Dreyfus wrote a great message and made a funny video in Julia style. It’s worth watching.

  1. Your comment there pretty much sums it up. In the end opposition to gay marriage rounds down to people using dogma and hate to legislate against love. I just can’t understand how any thinking human being can stand against it? I hope they televise this, it would be very interesting to watch.

    • As surprising as this sounds, some people are still responding out of honest fear and ignorance. I have found good friends, who are sensible, good people, not prone to dogma, who fear that if their children are exposed to homosexuality, they will “become homosexual”. I think the recent video by Eric McCormack and Julia Louis-Dreyfus sums up what I found. I’ve edited my post to include a link to their message. This fear or ignorance is being exploited.
